If you have never heard of Standup Paddleboard (SUP), you are not alone. However, it is one of the fastest-growing watersports of the moment.
Stand Up Paddleboard, also known as SUP, is a type of paddleboarding. You stand on a large board and use a paddle to travel through the water. The boards come in lots of different shapes and sizes depending on what you want to do and how experienced you are.
SUP is thought to have been around since the 16th Century. It has roots in African, South American and Polynesian cultures. It might be new to a lot of people, but it has a long history, and it’s one that you can be a part of.
You can use SUP as a way to explore and travel across long distances of water. They are great for getting out into the surf so you can ride the waves. Some people even practise yoga on paddleboards. You can get inflatable paddleboards, so it’s possible to try your skills anywhere, from canals and rivers to lakes and oceans.
SUP is a great way to get out on the water quickly. It’s great exercise that will work all sorts of muscles, but it’s not so intense that you will burn yourself out before you can really enjoy yourself. Your position on the water means that you get a great view of the area you are exploring. You get to see all sorts of things that you can easily miss when in a kayak or sailing boat.
SUP is great because it is quick to pick up. It’s not a huge learning curve, and you can be out on the water in no time at all. There a variety of board sizes, you can select a board to suit your confidence level. The bigger boards are more stable, so you are less likely to take a dive.
All you need is a little bit of guidance on how to use the paddle, where to stand, and what to do if you do take a plunge. You’ll be ready to go in no time at all.
